Mentoring + Psychosocial support

A question that I get asked a lot is what is the difference between a Support Worker and a Mentor? Here's our defintion. A Support worker helps with your day-to-day life and supports you through this. It can be anything from shopping, to helping with daily chores, to assiting you get to your appointments and commitments. A mentor has a designated focus on specific goals that a participant wishes to acheive, and also has a much stronger focus on meeting an individuals Psychosocal needs. Mentors can also assist someone navigate through transitional periods in their life when these times in life come around. The teeange years is when our young people start to plan for their future in regards to finding a job, what furthur study to pursue, and what is expected of them as they transition from adolescents to young adults. This can be a scary time, especially if the individual lacks confidence, direction, or not sure what options are avalible to them. This is where having a mentor is really benificial. Not only does having a mentor assist that person with building a transitional pathway, but they also help build confidence, and guide that person towards independance. Mentors can also help build positive personal traits, and help boost confidence. Our Mentor can work with your young person, or young adult at *home, or in their learning enviroment, such as *school depending on their age. Savvy has a very diverse background, and a lot of life expereince that he can use to assist the individual with their transitional phase. He has worked as a Case Manager as part of the Youth Outreach Team in remote central Australia, and was a support worker at the Department of Child Protection (DCP). Using a Strengths based approch, Savvy will identify the strengths within the individual and use this as a foundation to build up the persons skills and confidence, while motivating them to do their best. Each Mentoring session is 60 minutes in length and charged by the hour. It also incorporates Psychosocial support. We keep sessions managable and not too lengthy to minimise fatgue for the participant, especially for individuals who struggle with focus. Savvy has a valid working with Children check, a National Police check, and also a Working with Vulnerable persons check.
