Psychosocial Health and Safety seems to be a buzz phase at the moment, but it's a very important subject and one that can make or break your organisation. All workplaces and organisations have a duty of care for their employee's while they are at work, however a lot of organisations are so busy focusing on making the work place physically safe, that they forget to make it psychologicaly safe as well. This is when employee's start to struggle. Yes...your duty of care does also include your employee's psychological wellbeing!! Did you know that collectively, Australian workplaces lose 12 million days a year due to poor mental health? That comes at a cost of $14.8 Billion a year in lost productivity. In 2020-21, the Australian Government spent an estimated $4 billion on mental health services. (Stats from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.) With changes now being implimented within state WHS laws (New Amendments came into effect from April 1st 2023 for certain states), that include safety regulations to incorporate measures to minimise Psychosocial hazards and make the workplace more Psychologically safe.
